In the hopper

Outside of class time, Beth has been working on a new book sculpture entitled In The Hopper.  It is a trash can, turned from poplar, with a book inside.

The book is a diary of my last 2 weeks at the Turning Intensive in pictures and a written diary on back in my symbol alphabet. The diary is about the effect of the Ice incursion in Minneapolis and its effect on me and some of my students here in Maine. It ends by saying, with all this ability of humans to create, why choose destruction.

In The Hopper  will be an auction item for the AAW POP auction in June, and on view at the AAW Gallery of Wood Art in Saint Paul, Minnesota, March 15-May 22, 2026, and also at the AAW International Woodturning Symposium in Raleigh, North Carolina, June 4-7, 2026.
